Habitat Hectare Assessments

A Habitat Hectares Assessment is a quantitative and qualitative methodology for assessing the condition and conservation significance of native vegetation.

Habitat Hectare Assessments allow for the calculation of native vegetation losses and gains (a value provided in habitat hectares and number of scattered trees) required for a Net Gain Assessment.

Under the Habitat Hectares Assessment methodology, vegetation is classified as:

  • A remnant patch,
  • A scattered tree, or
  • Degraded treeless vegetation.

Habitat Hectare Assessments should be undertaken by suitably qualified and experienced ecologists with a current ‘Habitat Hectare Competency Accreditation’ from DSE.
